Forex IB program vs a welcome bonus: who actually gets paid

September 3, 2026 · Peak Pips desk

An IB program is a partner rebate. A welcome bonus is retail credit with strings. They are not two skins of the same promo — and the payor is often not you.

  • Education, not a signal
  • Check the register yourself
  • Leverage can wipe a deposit

Search “forex IB program” next to “100% welcome” and you get the same landing page with two buttons. They are different products. An introducing-broker (IB) or affiliate programme pays the person who sent the account — CPA, revenue share, or a rebate wallet. A welcome bonus is usually trading credit on your ticket, with rollover before cash can leave. Peak Pips does not rank “best IB 2026” and does not run a partner desk. This note is the split so you do not treat an introducer’s commission as your bonus.

What a forex IB program usually is

Most IB deals sit on a cookie or a partner code. The firm (or a white-label arm) pays the introducer when you open, fund, or trade. Payout can be per lot, a slice of spread/commission, or a one-off for a qualified deposit. Some rebate shops sit on that same layer — forex cashback vs a welcome bonus is the retail-facing rebate. Copy the legal name on the account form, not the IB portal — register steps. Same logo, different country, different IB PDF is normal.

You typically do not receive the IB commission unless you are the partner. Opening “under a friend’s link” so they get paid is not the same as claiming credit on your balance. A clone with an IB login and a bonus form is still a clone — how to spot one.

How it differs from a bonus

  • Who is paid. IB: the introducer. Bonus: credit (often not cash) on the client ticket.
  • When money moves. IB payouts follow partner terms and a minimum. Bonus cash-out waits on volume, expiry, and a withdrawal waterfall.
  • What it does to your risk. Credit can pad margin and keep a loser open. An IB rebate on someone else’s wallet does not change your stop-out — leverage and margin.
  • Stacking. Many entities void a welcome or no-deposit bonus if the account is tagged to an IB, or they cut the partner’s rebate if you claim credit. Clicking both “to compare later” can cancel both.

Round-turn cost still exists while the introducer is paid: spread vs commission. Lot size still decides whether a “small” ticket funds someone else’s CPA — pip value and lot size.

Copy these lines before you join or click a link

  1. Entity match. Partner portal, rebate site, and live application must name the same company you can search.
  2. Your job. Are you the client, or the introducer? The PDF for each role is different. Do not sign a partner agreement to “unlock a bonus” unless that is actually the product.
  3. Cookie and code. Who owns the last click. A YouTube IB link can overwrite a cashback cookie, or the reverse.
  4. Payout rail. Partner wallet vs client withdrawal. Read withdrawal policy for the account you will actually fund.

Licence still beats a partner banner

Some retail rulebooks restrict or police inducements and affiliate marketing. An IB shouting “unlimited rebate” may not be the register you thought you had. Start with what a licence covers and the regulated shortlist. Line two names up on compare brokers if you even need a second ticket. How to choose a broker still comes before a partner code.

Where Peak Pips stands

We research broker-style products: licences, typical costs, platforms, withdrawals. We are not an IB, not a rebate shop, and not a signal room. We will not publish a live CPA table. If a page cannot say whether you are the client or the introducer, stop. Risk disclaimer: leveraged CFDs can result in the loss of your capital whether or not anyone is paid for introducing you.

Common question

If I open through an IB, do I get a better bonus? Sometimes the partner has a different credit offer; sometimes you get nothing extra and they get the rebate. “Better” is not the CPA headline. Read the client PDF on the entity you signed. If the only document is an IB dashboard, you have not been shown the product you will trade.

This is editorial. It is not advice, a broker pitch, or a call to deposit. Confirm licences and costs on the firm’s own site.
