Forex cashback vs a welcome bonus: which string is actually on the ticket

August 26, 2026 · Peak Pips desk

Cashback is a rebate on lots. A welcome bonus is credit with rollover. Neither is a payout until the entity’s PDF says so.

  • Education, not a signal
  • Check the register yourself
  • Leverage can wipe a deposit

Search “forex cashback” and you get dollar-per-lot banners next to 100% welcome ads. They are different products. Cashback is usually a rebate after you trade. A welcome bonus is usually trading credit up front, with rollover before anything can leave. Peak Pips does not rank “best cashback 2026”. We write how to line the two up so you do not treat a rebate as a deposit match.

What forex cashback usually is

Most cashback or rebate schemes pay a small amount per lot (or a slice of the commission) into a wallet or the trading account. Payout can be weekly, monthly, or after a minimum. Some programmes sit on an IB/affiliate layer, not on the broker’s own books — same brand, different payor. Copy the legal name the way we describe in how to verify a broker. If the rebate site and the account form disagree, stop.

Cashback does not remove spread. You still pay the ticket. A “$10 / lot” line can be smaller than the all-in cost on gold. Add the round-turn in spread vs commission.

How it differs from a welcome bonus

  • Timing. Bonus credit appears first and pads margin. Cashback appears after volume, if the programme still exists that month.
  • What you can withdraw. Bonus cash-out waits on rollover and a waterfall. Cashback is often withdrawable as a rebate — until the terms cap it, delay it, or void it on a chargeback.
  • What it does to risk. Credit can keep a loser open longer. A rebate does not change stop-out. See leverage and margin.
  • Who pays you. Bonus: the entity on the account. Cashback: sometimes that entity, sometimes a third-party rebate shop. Both still need a name you can search.

A no-deposit bonus is a third shape: tiny credit, tighter cap. Do not mix all three on one ticket and assume the friendliest rule wins.

Copy these lines before you join a rebate

  1. Entity match. The company on the account form, not the cashback landing page.
  2. Per-lot math. Which products count, standard vs mini, and whether hedges or EAs are excluded. Contract size: pip value and lot size.
  3. Payout rail. Wallet, bank, or credit on the MT5 ticket — and the minimum. Read withdrawal policy as well as the rebate FAQ.
  4. Stacking. Many firms void cashback if a welcome bonus is active, or the other way around. Claiming both “to compare later” can cancel both.

Licence still beats a rebate table

Some retail rulebooks restrict inducements. An entity shouting cashback may not be the register you thought you had. Start with what a licence covers and the regulated shortlist. Line two names up on compare brokers if you even need a second account. A clone with a “claim rebate” form is still a clone — how to spot one.

Where Peak Pips stands

We will not publish a live cashback leaderboard. Rates change by country, IB, and week, and we will not invent a dollar-per-lot. If you came here for a shortlist, use how to choose a broker first, then decide whether any promo is even on the table. Peak Pips does not rebate your lots. Leveraged CFDs can wipe a deposit with or without cashback. Risk disclaimer.

Common question

Is forex cashback better than a welcome bonus? Only in the sense that a rebate is usually paid after you trade, while bonus credit is extra margin with strings. “Better” still depends on the entity, the all-in cost, and whether you can withdraw. If either PDF is vague, do not fund to “read it later”.

This is editorial. It is not advice, a broker pitch, or a call to deposit. Confirm licences and costs on the firm’s own site.
